Harvest in North Iowa Progresses Amidst Weather Changes

Farmers harvesting corn and soybeans in north Iowa made great progress with a recent stretch of dry, cool weather leading into last weekend.

However, a soaking rain this past Sunday (10.24), and more showers forecast for Wednesday (10.27)  and Thursday (10.28), have “slowed that roll,” which Iowa State University Extension Agronomist Terry Basol says isn’t all bad.

Basol says soybean farmers have benefited from last weekend’s hard freeze.

Basol adds that yields have been better than expected given the hot, dry conditions through much of this year’s growing season in north Iowa.
