Deer vs. Driving Can be a Dangerous Situation

While the deer population in north Iowa has been below Iowa DNR goal numbers in recent years, there are still plenty out there to avoid hitting while you’re driving.

DNR Deer Biologist Tyler Harms says this is the most active time of the year for deer.

Harms says the deer will be on the move for a few more weeks.

Harms adds that the DOT’s advice of “Don’t Veer for Deer” is often better than trying to avoid hitting a deer, which could result in losing control of your vehicle and striking an obstacle like a bridge or another vehicle.
