Two deceased individuals in an apparent murder-suicide in Charles City last week have been identified.
At about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 12th, officers from the Charles City Police Department responded to 301 Shaw Avenue to conduct a welfare check. Upon arrival, officers spoke with parties present at the residence and an ambulance was called by officers to respond to a possible overdose.
46-year-old Shane Swingen of Charles City was transported from the scene by ambulance and died a short time later. Officers executed a search warrant at the house and discovered a female body inside the residence. The victim’s body was sent to the state lab in Ankeny and has been identified as 44-year-old Jennifer Swingen of Dunkerton. Her cause of death was determined to be strangulation.
Chief Hugh Anderson’s media release also says investigation into the incident indicates it is an apparent homicide/suicide. Police do not consider the public to be at risk from what transpired.
