Arrest Made During Active North Iowa Burglary

A Fayette County man was arrested on burglary charges after trying  to flee authorities on foot.

The Oelwein Police Department says an officer initially encountered a subject inside “Oelwein Liquor” on South Frederick Avenue just before 3 a.m. Tuesday morning. The suspect then fled on foot after being confronted by officers.

The foot pursuit traveled north through residential yards in the 1000 and 900 blocks of 1st Avenue Southeast. It ended with the arrest of 35-year-old Anthony Copley of Oelwein. He was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, and interference with official acts.

Officers were able to recover the stolen property and additional charges are pending. Copley also had an active warrant through Fayette County for probation violation on original charge of eluding.

Just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oelwein Police arrested 50-year-old Christopher Walsh of Oelwein in the 10 block of 4th Street Northwest. Walsh was wanted on a Blackhawk County warrant for an original charge of failure to appear for carrying weapons.
