Three People Injured in Two-Vehicle Wreck in Floyd County

Three people from Charles City were injured in a two-vehicle wreck Tuesday morning in western Floyd County.

The Iowa State Patrol says the crash occurred on Highway 18 near mile marker 198 just south of Nora Springs shortly after 9 a.m.  A Freightliner semi truck driven by 72-year-old Steven Hatcher of Charles City was westbound on Highway 18 when he came upon the Chrysler Minivan, also headed west, driven by 67-year-old Martin Sherman, also of Charles City.  Hatcher swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting the slower moving vehicle, but was unsuccessful and struck the back of Sherman’s minivan.

Sherman and two passengers in his vehicle, 70-year-old Paula Sisseck and 23-year-old Jessica Montgomery, also both of Charles City, were injured and all were taken to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City for treatment of unspecified injuries. Sherman was transported by AMR Ambulance of Charles City, Sisseck by Mason City Fire and Rescue, and Montgomery by Nora Springs Ambulance.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
