“Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety” is the theme for this year’s National Fire Prevention Week.
Charles City Fire Chief Eric Whipple says the theme serves as a reminder that there’s a difference in the sound between your smoke alarm and your carbon monoxide detector. Whipple adds you should also know when it’s an alarm versus batteries losing their power.
If your smoke alarm or carbon monoxide detector is constantly “chirping,” Whipple says either the battery or the device itself has gone bad.
Whipple also notes the sounds of safety also differ between the sirens of fire engines, patrol cars and ambulances.
National Fire Prevention Week is October 3-9.
