Eugene “Gene” “Mack” McCauley, 92, Charles City

Eugene “Gene” “Mack” McCauley, 92, of Charles City, passed away Monday, September 27, 2021 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home surrounded by his loving family.

A funeral Mass for Eugene McCauley will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until the start of the service on Saturday.

Eugene Harnack McCauley, the son of Joseph and Ruth (Harnack) McCauley, was born on July 24, 1929 in Charles City. He graduated from Charles City High School. On April 9, 1951 Gene was united in marriage to Patricia “Pat” Wiltse at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. To this union the couple had three children: Julie, Michael, and Laura.

Gene first started his working career selling magazines and trimming trees. He later worked at Oliver for many years where he was a supervisor of the tool and die department. In his spare time, Gene enjoyed playing cards, traveling, hunting, and fishing. He also had an impressive garden he would tend to every year, often with the help of his grandchildren, and grew the best tomatoes and sunflowers.

Living family members include his loving wife of 70 years, Pat McCauley; daughter, Julie McCauley; son, Michael (Rita) McCauley; daughter, Laura (Kevin) Dean; grandchildren: Stacey Oleson, David (Melissa) Oleson, Megan McCauley, Ryan (Holly) McCauley, and Mallory (Jeff) Beatty; great-grandchildren: McKenna, Liz, Alex, Andrew, Jasmine, Holden, Elijah, Miles and Harry; sister, Janet (Jerry) Zubrod; along with many nieces, nephews and other family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ruth McCauley; and sisters, Joan White and Dolly Harris.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
