The Iowa Tree Farmers of the Year will be showcased during a special field day Tuesday near Charles City.
DNR District Forester Greg Heidebrink says the event will highlight the dedication of Dennis and Rhonda Westergard to value the forest as a resource for wildlife habitat and high quality trees.
Heidebrink says the field day will also feature a discussion on the Westergard’s run-ins with Mother Nature.
Other topics to be addressed Tuesday include pond management, deer and beaver management, the CRP Program in relation to trees, and an “Ask a Forester” session.
The event is free, but Heidebrink says if you didn’t sign-up in advance, you’ll need to bring your own lunch.
The Dennis and Rhonda Westergard tree farm is about six miles north of Charles City, appropriately located at 1450 Timber Avenue.
