Cedar Rapids Man Arrested in Near Rudd on Drug, Wrong Way Driving Charges

What started with a pursuit of a wrong way driver near Rudd has resulted in the arrest of a Cedar Rapids man on drug charges.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office says, shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday night, they received a report of a vehicle traveling east in the westbound lane on the Avenue of the Saints, from Rudd Park Road. A deputy was able to stop the vehicle at the 208 mile marker, leading to the arrest of the driver, 37-year-old Carlos Hampton on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, first offense.

Further investigation of Hampton and his vehicle led to additional charges including Class D felony possession of a controlled substance, aggravated misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, and driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway.

In a separate incident shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon, the Floyd County Sheriff arrested 40-year-old Russell Van Brocklin of Nashua on a valid warrant. After attempting to run from law enforcement, he was also charged with interference with official acts.
