New Hampton Schools Get Almost $1.2 Million in COVID Relief Funds

Phase III of the Elementary and Secondary Education Relief (ESSER) Fund will provide the New Hampton School District almost $1.2 million in extra money to utilize over the next three years.

At their regular August meeting Monday night, Superintendent Jay Jurrens gave the School Board a breakdown of how ESSER III funding will be allocated throughout the district.

Jurrens says distribution of funds means about $125,000 for sanitizing and cleaning efforts and supplies and $180,000 for students’ physical health including paying for the athletic trainer at the high school from MercyOne Hospital in New Hampton. $300,00 will be targeted to addressing the social emotional health of students and staff through outside counselors, therapists and special speakers; and about $310,000 to hire additional staff as needed.

Jurrens adds their allocations can be adjusted as needed with a review possible about every six months. First, the district must also spend their remaining ESSER II COVID funds of about $100.000.
