Rain Falls But Not Widespread in North Iowa

North Iowa received some much needed rainfall over the weekend, but the coverage of those rains continued to be varied across the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in LaCrosse,  4.26 inches of rain fell at the Northeast Iowa Regional Airport just east of Charles City between about 3 a.m. Sunday and 2 a.m. Monday morning . Almost four inches (3.92) of that rain came down in about a 5-hour period between about 9 p.m. Sunday night and 2 a.m. Monday morning, causing some street flooding in Charles City, including near the construction of the new Floyd County Law Enforcement Center. For the same time frame, in Fayette County, only a little over half (.62) an inch of rain was recorded at the Oelwein Municipal Airport.

The NWS also says between about 4 a.m. Sunday and 4 a.m. Monday morning, Decorah received 1.42 inches of rain, about one-third the rainfall of Charles City’s amount.  And, at the Mason City Municipal Airport, rain first fell late Saturday morning, but through 1 a.m. Monday morning, total rainfall amounted to just under one-half inch (.46).
