With the CDC’s moratorium on evictions coming to an end this Saturday, the number of evictions could be on the rise, including here in north Iowa.
Charles City Housing Director Katie Nolte says the moratorium has given many renters a reprieve from hardships brought on by the pandemic.
Nolte says if you’re worried about possible eviction, don’t wait until it’s too late.
Nolte says there’s also still assistance through the Iowa Finance Authority for rent and utility expenses incurred after March of 2020. She adds making that application successful is a joint effort between tenants and landlords. However, she says the government’s efforts to get those payments out has been a slow process.
The Iowa Finance Authority also has assistance programs for homeowners behind on their mortgage payments and for Iowans at risk of homelessness. You can find a link to their website here..
