North Iowa Teen Killed in Weekend Two-Vehicle Accident

A north Iowa teen was killed in a two-vehicle, head-on collision early Saturday morning in Mason City.

The Iowa State Patrol says the wreck occurred at about 6:30 a.m. in the 3500 block of South Federal Avenue, also known as Highway 65. A Chevy Cruze driven by 17-year-old Cammie Haack of Hampton was northbound on Highway 65 when her car drifted into the center turn lane. It was then struck head-on by the southbound GMC Acadia being driven by 30-year-old Joanna Gautier of Charles City.

Haack died as a result of her injuries while Gautier was transported by Mason City Ambulance to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. The accident remains under investigation.  Mason City Police and Mason City Fire departments, plus Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.

A GoFundMe has been set up for Haack’s family and as of Monday morning, more than $11,000 has been raised. The goal was $10,000.
