Practice Safety and Respect When Shooting Fireworks

Shooting off fireworks in city limits is not permitted in Charles City, but there is no Floyd County county fireworks ordinance.

Floyd County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Travis Bartz says those shooting off fireworks in rural areas are still advised to do so safely and respectfully.

Bartz adds that those handling fireworks should understand the dangers fireworks can pose.

Bartz advises checking with your local municipality about their fireworks ordinance.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety (IDPS) is also cautioning the effects of smoke from fireworks for people with sensitive breathing and, while there was rain last weekend, there are still many dry areas.  The IDPH says that increases the risk of fire from errant fireworks’ embers.
