Iowa’s New Permitless Firearms Carry Law Now in Effect

Iowa’s new law no longer requiring gun owners to have a permit to carry a weapon is in effect as of July 1.
Floyd County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Travis Bartz says permit or not, the same safety rules apply for those handling a firearm.
Bartz says while permits are no longer required by law in Iowa, that doesn’t mean a permit isn’t still needed in certain situations.
Bartz adds having a permit is still recommended and whether you elect to have a permit or not, background checks are still required to purchase a gun legally.
