The death of a Mason City woman earlier this month after she was struck and killed in a parking lot is now considered a homicide.
Mason City Police initially arrested 35-year-old Christopher Rathfon of Omaha, Nebraska on June 8th after they say the pickup he was driving hit 62-year-old Dawn Merrick as she left Mills Fleet Farm. Merrick died from her injuries two days later at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center.
Rathfon was originally charged with OWI, but that has been replaced with a charge of homicide by vehicle. Court documents state a breath test at the scene found Rathfon had a blood alcohol content of .255, more than three times the legal limit.
