High Heat, Dry Conditions Good Combination for Fires

While Charles City and surrounding areas received a shot of rain overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning, it may not be enough to offset hot, dry conditions the north Iowa area has experienced over the last couple of weeks. And today’s (06.17) forecast calls for extreme heat again with highs close to 95.

Prior to the rains early Thursday Charles City Fire Chief Eric Whipple said dry conditions combined with temperatures at or above 90 are key components to increase the risk of grass and other outdoor fires.

Whipple says safe burning practices also apply to “recreational” fires including fire pits and advises never leaving your fire pit unattended.
