In case you had forgotten, the deadline to file your federal income taxes is today (May 17).
The IRS extended the deadline from April 15th to May 17th due in part to the pandemic, but also to keep up with changes brought on by the various government stimulus payments. Certified Public Accountant Dennis P. Donovan in Charles City discusses how COVID stimulus payments factor into your tax return.
If you haven’t submitted your federal tax return yet, Donovan advises filing for an extension. It’ll get you an automatic extra six months to file, but not to pay.
Donovan also reminds Iowa taxpayers that the deadline to file your state income taxes is June 1st.
