A pop-up drive-in movie event organized by Main Street Charles City is set for this Saturday night.
The American film classic, “ET: The Extra Terrestrial,” will be shown in the Charles City High School parking lot starting at about 8:45 p.m. Social distancing will be provided by watching from or next to your vehicle and attendees have the choice of listening to the movies through an FM signal to their car radios, or through outdoor speakers. If sitting outside your vehicle, you will need to bring your own seating.
Admission will be a free-will donation to support the Main Street Charles City program (formerly Community Revitalization). Concessions will also be available on site including popcorn from the Charles Theatre. The high school is providing use of the parking lot and restroom facilities.
Because the movie is being shown outdoors and the projection equipment is exposed to weather elements, the event will not take place if there is rain or high winds.
Event sponsors include Cambrex Charles City, CUSB Bank, Mike Molstead Motors, Kip Hartwell, and Perry Novak Electric. The Charles Theatre also assisted in obtaining the rights to show the movies.
