Iowa farmland values increase despite derecho and pandemic

And the new Iowa farmland value charts are in – and even in a year with a devastating derecho, the value of an acre of land in Iowa increased 1.7%.
According to a report by Iowa State Extension and Outreach, an acre of farmland in Iowa is now $7,559 – an increase of $127 compared to 2019. ISU Extension chalks the increase up to, “Favorable interest rates, a strong demand for land and substantial government payments…”
Initially, the pandemic caused the land market to receive ‘downward pressure’ as food demand was lower – which resulted in lower livestock and ethanol prices.
The price changes in the Northeast Iowa area were favorable:
- Floyd County farm land was up 0.3% from 2019
- Chickasaw County went up 4.4%
- And Mitchell County was up 2.9%
