Charles City Fire Rescue puts city in ‘burn ban’ until ‘further notice’

According to the Charles City Fire Rescue team, it is too dry in the city to be burning anything.

A release says:

“Due to extremely dry vegetation, the lack of precipitation, and very little precipitation forecast, the Fire Chiefs of Floyd County have enacted a burn ban for the County effective immediately, and until further notice.  Several vegetation and wildland fires have occurred recently across the county, unnecessarily stretching various county Fire Departments thin.”

The release specifies that this ban will not prohibit the community from ‘recreational or cooking fires within city limits’.

“Extra precautions are required for anyone having a recreational fire within the city limits of Charles City, to include a wire mesh to surround the fire pit and also includes a lid to protect from embers leaving the pit.”

Fire Rescue ends the release by giving a final reminder that burning leaves in the city of Charles City continues to be prohibited.
