Lightning fast and reliable internet service is what the fiber-to-home project in Charles City is trying to offer the community. This last year, the city council has made the most progress of any towards fiber in the ground – the city developed a telecom board and bought property for a broadband center.
Though, the project is still snagged by one main thing: the $20 million dollars in funding it needs. The board now believes funding will be acquired and solidified by November of this year.
A project that at one time was predicted to connect the community with broadband services by early 2021, is now looking at a 2022 installation window.
The new timeline has the project’s outside plant and fiber cables being constructed from March to November of 2021. Some beta customers will get the service in October of 2021 – but the majority of residents will need to wait until early 2022.
