Charles City city administrator discusses plan to save and utilize the ‘Milwaukee Railroad Depot’

For many, the Milwaukee Railroad Depot on North Grand Avenue in Charles City is a historical landmark. Though, for a while now, it has been slated to be demolished. And this entire time, people in a group titled ‘Friends of Save the Depot’ have been trying to mount a rescue mission for the train depot. This rescue mission has a price tag of over $300,000 and involves relocating the depot.
City Administrator Steve Diers says just recently the plan is seeming more and more possible.
Diers says the plan would be to somehow create a complete loop for Charles City’s bike trail and place the depot on the newly finished path.
The depot relocation project has been funded about $100,000 as of today and is gaining steam as the demolition date nears.
Diers says updates will be coming soon.
