Charles City schools superintendent talks new baseball/softball complexes, college grounds, new football lights

Superintendent of Charles City schools Mike Fisher gave the school board a full district update at Monday’s board meeting. Fisher first focused on the new baseball and softball complexes and confirmed to the board that the fields are looking great. Though, the district is going to be postponing the grand opening event for the fields that they had been planning.

Fisher says he realizes if they went forward with this huge event, they would attract a huge crowd – and he didn’t think that would be safe during a time people are social distancing.

He is calling this year’s first game a ‘soft opening’ and says the district doesn’t want to go half-way with their celebration – as this has been a 20 year project in the making.

Those fields will be used vs. New Hampton on June 16th – with the double header starting at 5 p.m.

In other district news, the dirt pile at the college grounds is gone.

And finally, the new football stadium lights for Comet Field will be put in this week to replace the old lights.
