New Hampton to go forward with road projects among uncertainty

Presumably, people are leaving their houses less often than prior years – New Hampton Mayor Bobby Swickerath and the city council are predicting this will have a money-losing byproduct come 2021.

The road use tax, distributed by the state, is given out based on how often roads are being used. The virus has made this a question mark in the books.

Either way, New Hampton will be going forward with their road projects. According to Schwickerath, this will pay dividends in the long run.

This road projects will coat the streets with a seal that will protect them against UV rays, water damage, and salts.

If the city’s road use tax is down in 2021 and the city uses a huge chunk of their road budget this year – there could be an issue formulating in the future.
