‘Popcorn Friday’ on Main Street in Charles City is becoming a staple of the pandemic. This event is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. outside of the Charles Theatre and the popcorn starts at $3 for a small; $4 then for a medium; and $5 for a large.
A message the Charles Theatre volunteers are stressing:
STAY IN YOUR CARS!
The popcorn will be distributed on a cash-only basis and the volunteers will theoretically take the money and hand over the popcorn without someone having to leave their vehicle.
On the April 17th Popcorn Friday, the Facebook page announced the operation had sold a ton of the golden snack:
“What a great response to our popcorn!! We sold 237 larges, 26 mediums and 55 smalls!! Thank you Charles City and surrounding areas for showing us how much you love our popcorn.”
Which, when using the price chart, means the Charles Theater made just-under $1500 in one night from the popcorn sale.
This has a lot to do with the unofficial cruise that Charles City patrons have been participating in every Friday night on Main Street. The origins of this event are unknown to KCHANews.
