School is out for summer – and it is only April 21st. Last week, Gov. Reynolds announced the closing of Iowa schools through the end of the 2019-2020 year; spring sports were cancelled as well. Since then, North Iowa seniors have been wondering about the fate of their final prom, last summer sports season, and their first graduation ceremony.
Before June 1st, area schools will find out whether Gov. Reynolds will allow summer athletics.
A post from the Osage School Facebook page reads:
“Remember Graduation has been postponed to Sunday, June 21st and we are working through what that will look like. Know we want a normal ceremony, but have many ideas!”
Charles City Schools has gone on record many times guaranteeing their class of 2020 that they will get their ceremony.
Communications Director Justin DeVore says:
“Charles City Community Schools continue to guarantee there will be a graduation ceremony for the class of 2020. We also are weighing options for prom. Neither events have been cancelled for the Charles City Community Schools. They will not look the same as they have in the past, however it is important to recognize the years of dedication the Class of 2020 has put in.”
And New Hampton Schools are using the ‘wait and see’ approach as well. A Facebook post reads:
“At some point, we will have some type of commencement ceremony and we hope we can carry out our plans for prom some time. We don’t know when these events will take place yet, but we will let everyone know as soon as we are able.”
