Tough luck has struck Charles City’s water resource recovery project (WRRF) since the start of 2020. In February of this year, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources shut down construction to review the area for environmental concerns.
The original delay was supposed to be 90 days or less for the assessment – COVID-19 prolonged that.
Currently, the final plan is being reviewed and the construction hold will be lifted in a solid 2 weeks – at which point, a 30 day public comment period will commence.
Knock on wood. Late May to early June, the WRRF project should be regripping the runway.
The original plan was for the plant to be operational in December 2021 – this is a loftier goal as of today.
