Charles City city council votes to purchase 808 N. Main Street property

In a Tuesday special of Charles City city council action, the city voted to purchase the 808 North Main Street property that is currently Cal’s Auto Repair. The transaction will run the city $170,000 and will be a location where the city can store items, park vehicles, and fruition plans.

The loose plan for the city was for Simply Essentials to expand into North Main Street and force the redirection of the road itself. This fell through when Simply Essentials closed in the Summer of 2019. Owning this building could allow a new business in the empty factory to expand just the same.

The Telecommunications Utility Board purchased the old City Tap building at 813 North Main Street last month for $190,000.
