Charles City Kmart officially closed

Kmart is officially gone.

One-stop stores spread to each corner and reach of the United States in the last 50 years. Spreading so far and wide, Charles City, Iowa was gifted a Kmart store to quench a passive consumers shopping needs. As of today, that convenience is over and Chuck Townians are left to wonder where their ‘one-stop’ shopping could even take place.

Former Mayor Jeff Sisson reminisces about his hand in bringing Kmart to it’s new location in the 90s:

This closing will add to many narratives surrounding the area, including – the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the state, and Simply Essentials, Bread of Life Market, Lidd and Cordray, and now Kmart all closing in under a year in town.

The store will still be partly open for fixture pick-ups now through the 21st (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
