Charles City, Oelwein soldiers soon deployed to Middle East

The North Iowa “Ironman” battalion is being deployed to the Middle East – this includes over 550 soldiers from National Guards that include Charles City, Oelwein, and Waterloo.

This decision comes from the January Condition of the Guard address where Major General Ben Corell would be sending multiple deployments for Operation Spartan Shield.

These soldiers will be serving as security and protection in one of many areas such as: Afghanistan, Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, or Kuwait.

Deployment ceremonies will take place at the end of May of 2020, where the battalion will travel to Ft. Bliss, Texas, and finish some training before shipping-off overseas for a year.
