Some verbal backlash arose in Charles City when the Floyd County Supervisors announced they wouldn’t be giving people the day-off for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Instead, they would be switching to President’s Day as to spread out the county’s time-off calendar. Charles City council member Phillip Knighten says this wouldn’t happen if Charles City had more diverse boards.
To help dedicate MLK Day the right way, Knighten and Be the Bridge CC, a racial reconciliation group that attempts to create unity within the community, is putting on a program. This program will be held at the Charles City Public Library in the Zastrow Room on Janurary 20th starting at 10:30 a.m.
The program will include interactive activities, MLK speech reenactments, and refreshments.
