Legendary renaissance festival comedy act coming to Charles City
CHARLES CITY – The longest-running comedy act in North American renaissance festival history is coming to Charles City.
“Every now and then, a great comedy team comes along. And while you’re waiting for them, here’s Puke and Snot,” jokes the website of the famed comedic duo.
“Anyone who has ever been to a renaissance festival around the country, especially the one in Minnesota, has probably heard of Puke & Snot,” said Charles City Community Development Director Mark Wicks. “This is a unique brand of comedy and we’re extremely excited that they will be entertaining us at this year’s annual Chamber Dinner on February 22nd.”
The Chamber event will take place at the Youth Enrichment Center at the Floyd County Fairgrounds, beginning at 5 p.m. with a social hour and cash bar. A catered buffet dinner will be served at 6 p.m., with the entertainment to follow. Guests will also have the chance to win raffle prize packages that evening. Dinner tickets are $40 for Chamber members and $45 for non-members, and will include one free raffle ticket to put towards the prize package of your choice. Additional raffle tickets may be purchased for $5 each or five for $20. Reserved tables will also be available for parties of six people for $25. The renown Puke & Snot comedy team has been making audiences across the country laugh for more than 45 years now with their trademark brand of mock-Shakespearean vaudeville and audience participation. Their hilarious double entendres are, in their own words, “cleverly disguised in Shakespearean wit and verse.” Their comedy routines have been known to include sword play and their Legend Stage at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival is set up as a pirate ship. In addition to doing renaissance festivals throughout the country, Puke & Snot have performed at corporate and private parties, as well as been a featured act at Disney World.
Mark Sieve (Ralph Puke) and Joe Kudla (Thomas Snot) first appeared at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival in 1974 under the names Mouldy & Wart. They changed the act’s name to Puke & Snot a year later when they were joined at the Minnesota festival by another young comedy act by the name of Penn & Teller. During their run together, Sieve and Kudla have released four CDs and one DVD of their work over the 35 years of playing, as they put it, “two old guys in tights fighting a heroic battle against gravity.” Sieve has also authored the book, A Disturbance in the Farce.
After Kudla’s passing in 2008, John Gamoke stepped in for the next 10 years as Snot Jr. “Snot Version 3.0” is now being played by Twin Cities-area actor Scott Jorgensen, who has also appeared in some off the wall TV spots. He also gained fame for his four-part YouTube series in 2006 entitled ‘Fear of Girls.’
“If you love to laugh, you will love Puke & Snot,” promised Wicks. “This is not your basic stand-up comedy, this is a comedy experience.”
Tickets for the Annual Chamber Dinner will go on sale December 23rd. You do not need to be a member of the Chamber to attend. For more information, stop in at the office at 401 North Main St., call (641) 228-4234 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
