Charles City city council says ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’

A hello and a goodbye headlined last night’s Charles City city council meeting. The session prelude involved both new members, Phoebe Pittman and Phil Knighten, being sworn onto the council. This officially marks the passing of the torches. Meaning, both members will be sitting on the board come the first session of the new decade.

The meeting also took time to say goodbye to former members Dan Mallaro and Michael Hammond – who both didn’t seek reelection. Mayor Dean Andrews had some encouraging words to say:

As the meeting was wrapping up, City Clerk Trudy O’Donnell also commended Mallaro and Hammond for their council careers.

According to City Administrator Steve Diers, Pittman and Knighten will be embarking on a city tour in the next couple weeks in order to learn the area with trained-council-eyes.
