In terms of paid holidays for Floyd County in 2020, Martin Luther King Jr. Day will not be recognized. Local Frank Rottinghaus believes this to be a betrayal of what the acceptance of this day originally did for the county. He brought this concern to the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday.
In lieu of MLK Day, the board decided to choose President’s Day as it falls in February and would give employees a less bunched-up schedule of time off. The board also argued that even though the county does not designate the day, the day can still be special.
The board finished by discussing the possibility of doing an MLK Day service.
