Hanging up near the clouds and visible from the highway, is the Charles City Corporate Drive water tower. Flakes and rust have accumulated from over 15 years of little to no renovations – the tower was due a facelift. Cory Spieker, the Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, says by spring the tower will be repainted.
The city is leaning towards slapping the new Charles City logo on its stomach. This is the logo that most recently has been placed on all of the new welcome signs sandwiching the city. Spieker, says these upgrades to the tower are essential to its longevity.
The original tower built in 2004 cost $1.3 million to assemble. The full cost of these 2019 upgrades are estimated at well under $300,000.
