Des Moines, Iowa – Iowa Workforce Development reports the state’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.5 percent for August. The state has seen very little change in the rate in the last 14 months. It held at two-point-four percent for 12 straight months until moving up to the current two-point-five percent in July.
IWD deputy director Ryan West says the number of unemployed did increase by one-thousand in August — but those who had a job increased by 5,800
He says more people are looking for a job now with more opportunities.
Iowa is tied with New Hampshire for the third lowest unemployment in the country. The US unemployment rate remained at three-point-seven (3.7) percent in August.
