Storms hammer Northeast Iowa, rain in the forecast with flooding possible

Charles City, Iowa – More storms pounded Northeast Iowa this morning dumping several inches of rain and knocking out power for nearly two hours.

Meteorologist John Wetenkamp with the  The National Weather Service in La Crosse says rainfall varied over the area.

Wet conditions remain over the next few days with small chances of rain tonight and tomorrow but the big soak is expected on Saturday.

The hot and humid conditions are uncommon for the middle of September according to Wetenkamp.  He says next week, temperatures will return to normal but that doesn’t mean we’re in the clear right now.

The onslaught of rain this week has left the ground saturated which leaves an elevated risk of flooding.

Wetenkamp says local flash flooding will be most common but he can’t rule out a small chance of a widespread flood.

Temperatures will fall into the 60s next week and rain chances dry up.
