Charles City teachers inspiring readers

Charles City – More than half of our children read 15 minutes a day or less, according to a study done by renaissance.com. This is a growing trend in the country where children are reading less and less each year. Lincoln 3rd grade teacher Taylor Elliott, says she is always trying new ways to counteract this idea.

Bethany Jurrens, a 4th grade teacher at Lincoln, doesn’t see this trend with her own students.

Jurrens says she keeps the students reading by infusing her motto into the class dynamics.

Both these teachers are on their first year with the Charles City school system. KCHA will follow up with them throughout the year to update how interested our students are in reading.
