Supervisors approve FCMC petition to put tax levee option on November ballot

Chalres City, Iowa – Floyd County voters will be able to decide if the county’s hospital should levy for taxes to help generate more revenue.

The Board of Supervisors accepted the Floyd County Medical Center’s petition Tuesday morning putting it on the November ballot.

Hospital Administrator Rod Nordeng presented the petitions.

The minimum requirement was 318.

FCMC is wanting to change its organization from Iowa Code 37 to 347 where the hospital board is appointed by the supervisors and have the ability to levy taxes according to Nordeng.

Hospital documents indicate a reductions of nearly $750,000 for medicaid and $250,000 in Blue Cross leaving a strain on the bottom line.

Supervisor Linda Tjaden says the hospital has done “good job” of informing residents.

The change will cost taxpayers $33.45 annually – that average is based on a dwelling value of $103,000.

If you need more information, contact Nordeng at the Floyd County Medical Center.
