No surprise, weather not playing favorites to corn, soybeans

Des Moines, Iowa – Cooler than normal temperatures and below average rainfall last week continue to hinder the maturation of corn and soybeans in Northeast Iowa.

The latest USDA crop progress and condition report says crops are 12-18 days behind average.  Ninety-one percent is in the dough stage, two weeks behind last year, 12 days behind the five-year average.  Sixty percent of the crop is dented, two weeks behind last year and nine days behind the five year schedule.

Soybeans follow suit.  Ninety-four percent have set pods, 18 days behind last year and two weeks behind average.  Fifteen percent of the crop has colored, 12 days behind last year and nine days behind schedule.
