Charles City man sentenced to life in prison for 2017 murder

Jasper County, Iowa – A Charles City man will be spending the rest of his life in prison for a Japser County murder.

Court records say 54-year-old Randy Linderman was sentenced last week to life in prison for the murder of a Newton man in March 2017.

Documents say Jose Ramirez Berber died after sustaining blunt force trauma to the head at his home.

The sentencing happened nine months after conviction because Linderman sent the trial judge notes allegeding several trial issues but after several hearings, a motion for a new trial was denied.

Life in prison without parole is the maximum sentence for the crime.
