Charles City school board releases design for sports complex

Preliminary deigns for the sports complex

Charles City – The Charles City School Board has released the preliminary designs for the districts multi-million dollar baseball and softball complex Monday.

Members unanimously approved the plan, an estimate of the total cost and set a public hearing date for the project in August.

One of the first steps according to facilities director Jerry Mitchell is to send out bid packages.
He says there’s been a mix of local and non-local contractors.

Skott and Anderson Architects have designed the $2.314 million dollar baseball and softball diamonds which sit adjacent to the high school and football fields.

It includes sprinkler systems, a retaining wall and elevated press boxes with storage underneath.
Superintendent Mike Fisher says the complex has a unique twist.

Ground breaking is expected to happen before the end of the summer and in 10 months, balls should be flying at the new complex for the start of the 2020 season.
