City conveys South Jackson street to county

Charles City, Iowa – Floyd County’s multi-million dollar law enforcement center and courthouse project will now be able to take shape as Charles City has vacated part of the street running between county properties.

City Administrator Steve Diers says the city kept the street for its use for as long as it could before vacating it to the county.

South Jackson street gave access to several parking stalls and lots around the courthouse. The new building is designed to stretch across the street onto two properties to the west.

It will house the jail and dispatch center.

Diers says the project is “desperately needed.”

The project is still in its design faze between the architect and contractor as they continue to work out plans before construction starts.
