Floyd County Fair exhibitors, pet owners battling excessive heat

Charles City, Iowa – Temperatures will climb into the mid 90s over the next three days with heat indices topping out 105 degrees.

It’s not only the humans who are fighting off sweltering temperatures, but the animals too.

North Iowa News checked in with livestock exhibitors at the Floyd County Fair to see how they’re keeping their animals cool and comfortable.

Gillian Anderson is showing a market steer and says exhibitors are taking extra precautions.

She added the livestock barn is an open-air building which helps circulate a breeze.

While not all of us may have livestock to keep cool, Julie Taylor from Charles City’s Humane Society says pet owners need to dogs in air conditioning.

She says we should watch our furry felines, but they can take care of themselves.

Regardless, no pets should remain in vehicles.

Heat is forecast to remain through Saturday.
