Clarksville Mayor announces decision to not run for reelection

Clarksville, Iowa – Clarksville residents will be choosing a new mayor in the fall as Val Swinton announced he will not be running for reelection.


Swinton served two-two year terms.  He sat on the city council for four years prior.

He told North Iowa News his post was ‘interesting.’


Swinton added despite many people thinking the mayor holds the power, but city council members are the decision makers.

He says it didn’t matter to him because he had a strong sense of family.


Swinton’s advice for his successor:


He says he wants to thank everyone he’s worked with in city government and all public servants.
