Charles City, Iowa – Project estimates are higher than expected for Charles City’s new baseball and softball complex.
District Superintendent Mike Fisher announced the increase at Monday’s school board meeting where he says the architect produced only one set of costs versus two.
Early numbers penciled the cost at $1.7 million but according to documents the newest estimates are $2.3 million.
Fisher says they’ve learned designing parts of the project locally makes it cheaper.
Other increases are from seating capacity, project contingency and dugouts.
Board member Jason Walker who opposed moving the complex says he’s disappointed in the new estimates.
The project cost could still be lower, but until the bidding process starts, the district won’t know according to Fisher.
A public hearing is set for July 29 at 6:15 to use SAVE revue for the project.
