Charles City, Iowa – With the new multi-million dollar baseball and softball complex moving to the Charles City High School plot, the next step is figuring out what to do with the school-owned 20 acres near Shadow Avenue.
According to Superintendent Mike Fisher, there is interest from Bailey’s Nursery and a private citizen to purchase the parcel.
Board Member Jason Walker says he feels it’s appropriate for the district to sell it Bailey’s Nursery after they made concessions selling the property to the school in 2017.
The district purchased 20 acres for $160,000 with no infrastructure and hopes of constructing a baseball and softball facility.
Fisher mentioned there were possibilities of some school use such as the FFA chapter, but after exploring the district’s options, there aren’t many.
He says the land sits in drainage ditch #4 which complicates future use.
The board didn’t take action on its future but did make a decision to discuss the property with county officials.
