The Score Sheet: Comets sweep New Hampton, Bohlen on 400 wins and McDonald headed to Astros

The fourth-ranked Charles City Comet softball team took sole possession of first place in the NEIC and remained unbeaten on the year.  The Comets swept rival New Hampton 12-2 and 4-0.

Comet softball Coach Brian Bohlen recorded win #400 Tuesday night at Forest City.  Bohlen received a banner and an autographed home plate.

 

He chalks part of his success up to tradition.

 

After last night’s sweep, Bohlen has 402 wins.

Nashua-Plainfield improves to 5-5 with a 13-8 win over Northwood-Kensett.

Bishop Garrigan thumped Rockford 15-1. The Warriors are 6-4.

Turkey Valley has picked up four straight after sweeping, Central Elkader 7-5, then 13-1.  The Trojans are 5-5.

North Fayette Valley  is 6-3 after sweeping  South Winneshiek 10-3 and 12-8.

Baseball

Nashua-Plainfield grabbed a 4-3 decision from Northwood Kensett.  The Huskies are 4-3.

Osage picked up a 12-2 win over Forest City to improve to 5-2.

Rockford won by forfeit over Bishop Garrigan.  They’re 6-4.

North Fayette Valley dropped the double header to South Winneshiek 5-0 and 6-0.  The Tiger Hawks are 4-6.  South Winns double dip W now makes them 8-4.

The Waukon Indians thumped Turkey Valley 10-0. The Trojans are 0-9.

Former New Hampton Chickasaw Baseball player Cole McDonald will play at the next level.  The Houston Astros drafted the former Iowa Hawkeye in the 15th round.  McDonald is the 21st Hawkeye drafted under Rick Heller and is the 13th consecutive year Iowa has put someone in the MLB. McDonald made 15 starts, compiled a 6-3 record with a  3.54 ERA.
