Chickasaw Ambulance Council approves EMS contract, awaits supervisor approval

New Hampton, Iowa – The Chickasaw County ambulance saga is finally one step closer to a solution.

The Chickasaw County Ambulance Council approved Jeremy McGrath’s contract Thursday morning 5-4.

The contract is for two years for a total of $360,000.  There was an option for a third year, but they dropped the clause until voters are able to decide to make EMS an essential service.

One of the sticking points for the no votes, according to Chairman Steve Geerts, is contract verbiage on being able to cancel service.

During the meeting, members heard from an Iowa City based EMS service, CARE ambulance.  They didn’t have a proposal but discussed the principals of the company and their value to Chickasaw County.

Alta Vista Mayor Amy Laures moved for approval before other discussion about the potential of CARE ambulance.

The contract will head to the supervisors at their next meeting to approve the contract to provide funding for the service.

Today’s actions mark the end of a five month long process of negotiations and meetings.
